Flame-retardant PC/ABS, which contains PC components and flame retardants, is prone to hydrolysis of PC during high-temperature molding processes if it contains moisture. Additionally, excessive heating (including shear heat) can cause partial degradation of the material and the release of small molecules, leading to cosmetic issues such as silver streaks, yellowing, black surface stripes, and color differences in the finished product; as well as strength issues such as brittleness, screw column breakage, and paint cracking, or defects like mold deposits. Taking QINGDAO PRIMETECH PLASTICS CO.,LTD's halogen-free flame-retardant PC/ABS alloy as an example, we will briefly introduce the processing conditions for flame-retardant PC/ABS alloys.
1. Drying. It is recommended to dry at around 90°C for approximately 4 hours. Adjust based on material moisture content, storage conditions, and dryer status, but the cumulative drying time must not exceed 48 hours, as prolonged drying may cause material degradation and discoloration.
2. Barrel temperature. Set the front, middle, and rear section temperatures as shown in the figure below.
3. Mold temperature. It is recommended to set the temperature between 50°C and 100°C, adjusting based on the thickness, dimensions, and gate/runner configuration of the product.
Notes:
1. The machine should be thoroughly cleaned before production, but avoid using materials prone to decomposition as cleaning material; it is generally recommended to use PP or PE;
2. During production, avoid allowing the material to remain in the heating elements for extended periods;
3. The temperature of the hot runner system must not exceed 270°C to prevent material degradation.
